Through our work with Jennifer Young’s Defiant Beauty range we have come to meet some amazing characters with really inspiring stories that show that cancer isn’t all doom and gloom.

Gloria Halim is one of these. After being diagnosed with cancer in her early thirties, Gloria beat it and went on to study at the IIN. Author of the book Healthy Foods, Healing Foods, Gloria is dedicated to sharing her knowledge with others and her passion to help people on the road to recovery saw her run her first renewing spa day at the Dolphin Square Spa. The event was a resounding success and there are plans in motion for more spa days this year as well as Wellness Retreats. Rock on Divas Renewing Spa Day!

I’m so thankful for this year, the awesome journey I’ve been through and still on and the fabulous people I’ve met along the way.

On the 22nd of November, I ran the first Rock on Divas Renewing Spa Day which was such a huge success. Ten fabulous women attended the event and left relaxed and with such huge smiles on their faces. I felt so happy about that because if there was one thing I really wanted to achieve on that day, it was the women feeling happy, relaxed and ready to face the world with more zest than before.

The day almost got off to a rocky start with my journey to the spa location turning out to be a bit of a nightmare. Why is it that when you’re a little anxious and in a hurry to get some place, that’s when the trains decide they are going to take a bit of a break, have a meltdown and cause delays?! Don’t know about you guys but if you’re anything like me, when I’m running an event I like to get to the location way ahead of the scheduled time, check to make sure everything is ok and have a bit of quiet time to get myself ready – I hate to hurry. But that didn’t happen on this morning – got there a little late and flustered, but I decided not to let it faze me. I took a couple of minutes, re-zoned myself and went ahead with the day.

The women who attended the event were seriously strong, inspirational Divas. They opened up, some for the first time and shared their experience with each other. What I witnessed on that day were awesome women who had been through the mill and despite what life had thrown at them, had the strength to say “I need this day because I’m ready to heal and take life by the horns and rock it out”.

I was so honoured to be there and to have created a safe environment, away from the hospital environment, where they could share and interact with each other, get answers to some of the questions they had and get pampered all in the same day – rocking, awesome day! Click here for pictures and positive, totally awesome feedback from the ladies who attended the spa day.

I’m thankful and feel truly blessed to have had the opportunity to run the spa day. Having said all that, this day would not have been possible without my awesome sponsors who opened their hearts (and wallets) to make the day possible. I would like to thank Pastor Agu Irukwu, Jesus House and Mr Jide Somefun for their support – I’m truly, truly grateful.

I will be running more events in the New Year so keep an eye out for new dates! Gift vouchers are available, click here for more information– a thoughtful gift for anyone special who has gone through illness and treatment.

Peace and Fabulous Health!

Gloria.
